One of our sessions this week was shape making. During this session we used white shirts to drape on the stand, experimenting with various ways of wearing and fastening the shirt by turning it inside out, upside down and adjusting the collar and sleeves. I liked the shapes achieved by connecting and draping three shirts on the stand. I want to experiment with working away from the body, instead of creating a flattering cut I want to give the body a new form and shape.
I also want to move away from the conventional ideas of a shirt and look at its detailing rather than restricting my ideas to a fitted long sleeved garment. I particularly like the shape achieved in the top image. I turned the sleeves inside out to give a kind of pocket/tube dress with a button placket to the side.
However I think I need to explore and develop my ideas further to start illustrating designs, at the moment I am just noting down interesting details.
